Where does the idea of tikkun olam come from and why is it so central to Jewish life? We’ll look at sources that inspire us to get involved and make a difference in the lives of others—then we’ll get ready to put these ideas into action.

We’ll visit Boston public schools to share our love of books with the students, reading to them one on one and presenting them with books they can keep to help build their lifelong libraries.

  One Man’s Vision, From Idea to Reality: Michael Brown, CEO and co-founder of the nationally recognized City Year program, will share his own journey from dreaming about changing the world to making it happen.

Service Project Debrief:
We’ll talk about our experiences during our morning in the Boston public schools and focus on what learnings we’ll take home with us.

Community Practices Exchange: Drawing on the wisdom and vision in the room, we’ll share ideas and community practices, tracing how vision becomes action and then discussing how to customize and implement these programs in our own communities.
4:45 to 6:45pm Why are you a Jewish leader?
We want to know! For a video on Federation young leadership, we invite your participation. Sign up in advance for your time slot at the registration table, and pick up a copy of the questions and guidelines.
Evening On your own, with old friends or new, explore the sites, sounds and tastes of Boston. Stop by the registration table for suggestions. At 9:00pm, meet us at Vox Populi, 755 Boylston Street, a few blocks from the hotel.

How do we know if what we’re doing works? In this practical workshop, we will use multiple reflective techniques and exercises to measure everything from how we create a vision of leadership to how we follow up on that vision and manage our time and priorities to achieve our goals.
